2026 Humboldt Bay Marathon Races
August 9, 2026 - Join us for the 11th Running
Humboldt Bay Marathon is a nonprofit affiliate of the Road Runners Club of America. Our goals are to promote fitness, outdoor recreation and trails in Humboldt County. Whether you are striving for another personal record or just looking for a uniquely beautiful place to run, the Humboldt Bay Marathon, Half Marathon and BeerMile races are exactly what you're looking for!
About Us
- For years, Humboldt runners have been running on the scenic roads and trails surrounding Humboldt Bay. We have gotten so much from our own connections to the local running community, and we want to continue to give back to that community by organizing an annual event that brings runners in from around the country and around the world.
- In the summer of 2014, the thought occurred to us to organize a marathon that would help support local nonprofit organizations dedicated to trails, fitness and outdoor recreation. We are very excited to be turning this concept into reality!
Meet the Directors

Rich Baker, Event Director
Rich came up with the idea for the Humboldt Bay Marathon in the summer of 2014 and has been the driving force behind the effort to turn this idea into reality. Rich has been an event organizer for 16 years and has directed international Scrabble(R) Tournaments in 20 different countries. Rich has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and has taught at Humboldt State University, College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly State University. Rich is a recreational runner, still trying to break the 2 hour barrier for the half marathon.

Terri Vroman Little, Assistant Director
Terri has had a love of the outdoors her entire life. She is a retired wilderness trail worker and passionate backpacker and hiker. For many summers, she taught Wilderness Ethics and Natural Resources classes to CCC trail crews in remote wilderness camps. Terri has been running in the greater Humboldt Bay area for over 30 years. While running cross country at College of the Redwoods, her true love of running was born. She has completed countless road races, including many half marathons and two full marathons. Her first marathon qualified her for Boston, and her second marathon in 2012 was The Big Boston! Terri has been coordinating a school running club since 2005. She is Race Director for the Fox Trot lap-a-thon and the Dunes 5K and 10K runs (Six Rivers Running Club circuit races). Terri is also an Elementary Montessori educator and school founder of Redwood Coast Montessori. She holds an MA Ed. from Humboldt State University as well as Montessori and public elementary credentials. Terri learned to play recreational soccer as a grown up and continues to coach children's soccer. She has also raised four wonderful children and has imbued each of them with a love of the outdoors.
